The subsequent posters were featured in three college poster design contests.
In accordance with this month's theme of Black Excellence, I created this poster to question the figures CSUSM chooses to celebrate through public works of art. This collaboration between Mexican-American and Black activists was a monumental show of support between these persecuted groups. My poster provides information on Stokely Carmichael's work with the farm workers.
Following the theme of community service, this poster highlights the house repair service North Coast Calvary Chapel holds for those in the Carlsbad community. This program provides a much needed service for our local community and demonstrates the reach of the church outside of it's chapel walls.
As part of the Environmental monthly theme, this poster is intended to inform viewers of the detrimental aspects of wind turbines that are often hidden under the label "green energy."
The subsequent posters were created in collaboration with California State University San Marcos' Sustainability Program. They will be printed and posted on the sides of the recycling and landfill Big Belly Trash Bins on campus in 2022.
The first poster set has the theme Oil and Plastic inspired by the October 2021 oil spill in Orange County, CA. Each poster makes viewers aware that many plastic products are created from oil. Reducing the purchase and use of plastics decreases the consumption of oil and limits its dangerous distribution processes.
This second set of posters was created to help students on campus identify if the common items they may be carrying are or are not recyclable. Masks and food wrappers are likely in the possession of every student, but very few of us understand how to dispose of them properly
My final poster set turns its focus to the home waste practices of CSUSM students. With a more typographic approach, both posters inform and encourage students to use recyclable and compostable wrapping materials during the holiday season.
This poster focuses on one of my favorite typefaces, Bodoni. It includes a bit of type anatomy, an alphabet sample, and a short type designer and history bio. This piece also demonstrates the range of weights provided by URW’s modern version of the typeface.
Although this poster is not focused on Bodoni, it also features a highly contrasting serif typeface. This design is centered around a long list of “Twin Things” based on my experiences being an identical twin. I arranged this long list with diagonal axes, text sizes and weights, and color.
The subsequent posters were created in collaboration with California State University San Marcos' Sustainability Program. They are a marriage of augmented reality and poster design that appears once you scan the blue posters on the right with the app Artivive. The map on the left then appears in AR to guide the viewer to the nearest Big Belly trashcan.
Made with Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, Artivive, and digital illustrations.
